Dr. Hladunewich obtained a B.Sc. in 1990 and her medical degree in 1994, both from the University of Alberta. This was followed by fellowships in critical care medicine and nephrology at Stanford University. In 2003, she earned a Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from Stanford University, where her focus was in Clinical Investigation and Biostatistics. Her research training was in glomerular physiology.

Dr. Hladunewich joined the Department of Medicine and the Division of Critical Care Medicine and Nephrology at Sunnybrook & Women’s in 2003. She serves as a staff physician on the Nephrology Inpatient Service. As the Acute Dialysis Director, she manages the Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy Program.

Dr. Hladunewich has published a number of research papers and actively teaches in her areas of interest, which include:
