Description: | The fellowship is specifically designed to educate adult Hematology trainees interested in Hemoglobinopathies. It is a 2 year combined clinical and research fellowship in Adult Hemoglobinopathies, focusing on comprehensive care, inter-professional collaboration, education, and research development.
It is expected that trainees undertake a Master’s program, according to their desired career tract. If the Fellow is from outside of Toronto, it is expected they will return to their home institution and implement further Hemoglobinopathy training locally. |

Description: | The Allotransplant Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Center is the largest in
the Province of Ontario with an annual volume of about 125 procedures that
include grafts from both related, unrelated and haploidentical donors. This
fellowship focuses on clinical management and decision taking for patients
undergoing allogeneic transplantation for various diseases and their early and
long-term management post-transplant. Fellows are expected to participate in
clinical, research and educational activities. They receive a robust exposure to
management of complications such as acute and chronic graft versus host disease,
infectious issues, and emerging co-morbidities such as metabolic disorders and
secondary malignancies. During the fellowship training, they are given the
opportunity to understand the donor search process, apheresis principles and
graft processing including cryopreservation. Knowledge regarding quality control
in stem cell transplantation plays a major role during their training process
and they are exposed to various quality control steps regarding stem cell
procurement, infusion and transplantation process. During the fellowship
training, strong emphasis is given to ensure that trainees at the completion of
his 2 years fellowship program are competent to function as a medical expert for
allogeneic transplantation and health advocate, have acquire appropriate
managerial skills, and communicate and collaborate within their respective
health care environment. Fellows have ample opportunity to participate at
various clinical trials understanding their basic principles and execution. A
formal educational program with regular teaching rounds is in place and
qualifies for CME credits. Candidates for fellowship must have completed subspecialty training in hematology or oncology and be eligible for licensure through College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. |

Description: | Fellows have the opportunity to participate in a clinical research fellowship in the treatment of multiple myeloma and associated mature B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders at the Division of Hematology at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Fellows will gain clinical experience in the care of patients with myeloma and related disorders. Work will include application of the principles of intensive therapy and stem cell transplantation, as well as use of novel agents in drug development. Fellows may participate in clinical investigation (writing or directing study protocols, participating in the National Cancer Institute of Canada, applying for grant support and more). Depending on candidate interest, opportunities in laboratory research, patient/faculty education and supportive care in mature B-cell disorders may be available. |

Description: | This is a blended research (25%) and clinical (75% supervised) fellowship focused on immune cell (IEC) therapy, primarily in hematologic malignancies. The successful applicant will develop expertise in dealing with patients undergoing IEC therapy and all aspects of their care, including leukapheresis, bridging therapies, conditioning regimens, and post-IEC followup. The trainee will learn to manage acute complications of IEC therapy, including cytokine release syndrome, neurotoxicity syndromes and cytopenias in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The trainee should have prior experience in hematologic malignancy (lymphoma, leukemia and/or myeloma) or stem cell transplantation, extending these skills to IEC therapy and will become part of a multidisciplinary, multi-disease site team. The IEC fellowship will provide experience in managing the rigorous regulatory stipulations for safely conducting cellular therapy (FACT and Health Canada accreditation amongst others) and will gain exposure to niche areas such as apheresis and the cell processing laboratory. The successful applicant will participate in in-house committees (such as the Cell Therapy Review Committee) to recognize different aspects of building an effective program. The trainee will also actively participate in research, participating in clinical trials and retrospective chart reviews. Research time will be dedicated to 2 projects: 1) a clinical research project with expectations of presentation at a national/international meeting and 2) an IEC-related quality project, focusing on implementation or process development. At the end of this fellowship, the trainee is anticipated to have completed or be enroute to completion of at least one peer-reviewed publication. |

Description: | The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Leukemia program is the largest provider of Leukemia services in Canada, and one of the largest in North America. The program is composed of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, physiotherapists, social workers, and research coordinators dedicated to the treatment of patients with Leukemias and related disorders. Fellows will gain clinical experience in the care of patients with acute leukemia and related disorders. Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in clinical research projects, design of clinical trial under the supervision of leukemia physicians, learn the principles of conducting clinical research, and participate in program’s academic activities. Depending on the interest and career goals of the candidate, opportunities will be available for pursuing a combined fellowship in the Leukemia and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation or a translational/laboratory-based research fellowship related to leukemia/MDS/MPN. Candidates must have completed subspecialty training in medical oncology or hematology and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Overseas candidates should have Canadian equivalent training in the above disciplines. |

This fellowship in Maternal/Fetal Hematology is intended for highly motivated academic physicians who have completed basic Hematology/Obstetrics training and wish to pursue clinical and scholarly excellence in the approach and management of women with hematological disorders in pregnancy. The Medical Disorders in Pregnancy Program at the University of Toronto provides a wide breadth of exposure to clinical hematological disorders peripartum including immune disorders, hemoglobinopathies, thromboembolism, myeloproliferative disorders, malignancies, and hemostasis as well as laboratory based exposure including the investigation and management of hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn and fetal/neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. The fellow is strongly encouraged to enroll in a graduate program in research, medical education or quality improvement. The successful candidate will have at least 50% time dedicated to their academic activities.
