Description: | Training future leaders in Hepatology is a focus of our unit. Over the years, many national and international fellows with diverse interests have trained with us. Our unique position as the largest liver unit in Ontario, together with proximity to Sick Kids, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and complex medical services provided at Toronto General Hospital, mean that we care for patients with a breadth of liver pathology that is truly unrivalled. Our rich learning environment and high patient volumes allows for the simultaneous training of up to 8 clinical and research fellows. Our Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Hepatology is comprised of 75% clinical time, the majority of which is spent seeing ambulatory patients including general hepatology, viral hepatitis and autoimmune liver disease. Fellows expected to supervise senior Gastroenterology trainees and Internal Medicine trainees providing inpatient Hepatology consultative services. Inpatient services will expose fellows to advanced, complex and end-stage liver disease and also provide opportunities for procedures including liver biopsies and endoscopy, should there be an interest. Clinical fellows will be active in scholarly activities including teaching, rounds presentations, research projects and quality improvement. |

By the end of the fellowship, the trainee will achieve the cognitive clinical as well as technical competency to indepedently provide the ERCP endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatiography (ERCP) and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS).The fellowship experience will occur at two sites: Toronto General Hospital and Toront Western Hospital. The advanced endoscopy fellow is expected to participate with graduated responsibilities in cases involving ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound as well as other advanced endoscopic procedures deemed appropriate by the fellowship supervisors Dr. Paul James and Dr. Louis Liu. Duties will also include inpatient consultation and management of patients who may required advanced endoscopic procedures; outpatient clinical care and on-call consultation for the advanced endoscopy and gastroenterology services. Dedicated and protected research time and resources will be incorporated into the fellowship as outlined in the “Fellowship Objectives”. The advanced endoscopy trainee will be expected to present their research and co-author a peer-reviewed publication in the field of advanced endoscopy during their training period. Description: | Advanced training in clinical care of complex IBD to include inpatient, outpatient and endoscopic experience at Mount Sinai Hospital – a high volume, internationally known, tertiary care IBD centre. Significant interaction will be provided with the IBD surgical team and exposure to an IBD-interested pathology and radiology group will be provided. Opportunities for independent work and to participate in urgent IBD clinics and pediatric transition clinics are provided. Extensive research opportunities and protected research time are a large part of the fellowship experience. Wide breadth of research experience is available such as: clinical outcomes, clinical epidemiology, therapeutic drug monitoring and PK/PD studies, translational studies, biomarker studies, genetics, microbiome, transcriptome and epigenome projects. Description: | Women’s College Hospital is a fully affiliated core teaching hospital of the University of Toronto. The Division of Gastroenterology is offering a clinical/research fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease, with a primarily ambulatory focus. The interested candidate will have completed a gastroenterology residency/fellowship and have an interest in an additional one to two years of specialty training. The fellowship is supervised by Dr. Talia Zenlea and Dr. Natasha Bollegala. Scope of training: All areas pertaining to the diagnosis and treatment of outpatients with inflammatory bowel disease, and endoscopy as it pertains to the IBD patient, including use of standard endoscopic scoring systems, chromoendoscopy and include 6 weeks of inpatient service including call at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The successful candidate will also be expected to pursue a clinical research project, ideally part of a Master’s program, and/or can be attached to a project of interest related to inflammatory bowel disease supervised by Dr. Bollegala and/or Dr. Zenlea. Description: | Goals To provide training and experience that is sufficient for the fellow to acquire competency as a specialist in the field of Nutrition. To be eligible for training in the subspecialty of clinical nutrition, a physician must have completed categorical residency training. This training may be in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Family Medicine or subspecialty training such as adult or pediatric gastroenterology, endocrinology, critical care, nephrology or cardiology. Program Overview To acquire competency as a specialist in the field, training will comprise a minimum of 6 months and up to 12 months of mentored clinical experience and formal instruction. Additional time may be required for research. Clinical experience and exposure will include work in both inpatient and outpatient settings. An individual embarking upon fellowship training in Nutrition will work with the designated supervisor to detail specifics of their training relative to their career and practice goals. It is also expected to complete one clinical research project. |

Description: | St. Michael’s Hospital has a long tradition (over 30 years) of excellence and training in therapeutic endoscopy and remains the largest referral center in the country. The fellowship represents a comprehensive advanced endoscopy experience designed for those interested in an academic medicine career. Fellows will work with the 6 advanced endoscopists (Drs. Marcon, Kortan, Kandel, May, Teshima and Mosko) as well as other members of the GI division at SMH. They will gain extensive experience in a broad range of therapeutic techniques including: ERCP (including cholangioscopy), diagnostic and therapeutic EUS, pancreatic fluid collection drainage, UGI endoscopic mucosal resection, large colonic polyp resection, luminal stenting, radiofrequency ablation and double balloon enteroscopy. In addition to the cognitive and technical skills needed to provide clinical care in interventional endoscopy, fellows will be provided with research mentoring and will be expected to conduct meaningful research, present their findings at international meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals. |

Description: | Our center performs approximately 180 adult liver transplants per year, of which approximately 20-25% are living donors. We follow >1700 recipients in clinic, and maintain a waiting list of 200-220 patients. Approximately 10-15 new patients are assessed for transplant weekly. We have four funded Tx hepatology fellowship positions. The trainees come for one or two years; one year is typical if their plan is to return and work in a peripheral center that works with, but does not perform, transplants, and two years if full employment in a transplant center is the ultimate goal. Our fellows are paid a salary of approximately 65,000CDN, for which they do in-house Multi-Organ Transplant Call 3 or 4 times per month. The fellows rotate a week at a time (depending on numbers) on inpatient, outpatient, and research. There is an opportunity for some endoscopy. Two year fellows have the option of arranging selective in areas such as HCC, radiology, pathology, ID, and others. |
